The Fringe Festival is synonymous with creativity and innovation. It has grown from a festival of theatre to a festival for all art forms, including dance, opera, comedy, music, and much more.

The Edinburgh Fringe is the world's largest arts festival and it lasts for 18 days in August. The programme includes more than 50,000 performances of theatre shows, music concerts, comedy acts and street arts in 300 venues across the city. The interactive nature of these events makes it an exciting place for people to visit and experience new things. There are many opportunities for people to learn about the history of this country and see how the past has shaped our present. The future of these events is uncertain, with a number of museum staff members expressing their concern over recent budget cuts.

Artists and performers take to stages all over the city to present shows for every taste, and audiences can create their own festival experience from a mixture of ticketed, free and street performances.

The city centre of Edinburgh can be quite busy in August, so leave plenty of time to get from one event to the next. Even if venues appear close together - they might not be! Grab yourself a Fringe Programmes so you know what is on when and where.

Exit one show and join the queue for another (especially if you want to grab some food, visit the bar or use the facilities in-between shows).

Don't worry about arriving late for a heart-pounding show. Some venues won't let you in if you're too late. And make sure to leave plenty of time to travel from one gig to another, or your adrenaline levels might go through the roof!
